MY EXPERIENCE AS A LIFE COACH:
For more than 6 years now, I've specialized in working with highly sensitive people who often find themselves struggling to find their equilibrium in a world that can feel very overstimulating and overwhelming. Highly sensitive people are very emotionally "tuned-in" to their environments. Many can feel other people's emotions and are strongly effected by others' moods. They might see a dramatic event, on the news, or hear about it, from a friend, and be very disturbed by it, for days. Whereas, most people can just hear the news and let it go. When things are somehow "off" or out of balance, in their environment, the highly sensitive person will know and will feel it strongly, even it's not something that effects them directly, like a world event.
I work with these clients to help them eliminate the depression, hopelessness, and anxiety that often accompany this kind of sensitivity. I help them move past blockages, find their life purpose, and start living a life that allows them to thrive. Although these sensitivities can be extremely challenging, they also motivate us to help others, be of service, and make the world a better place, in whatever way we are called to do so. People with these sensitivities are extremely conscientious and moved to express their awareness and make a positive difference in this world. But first they need to learn how to manage those feelings of overwhelm and build a life where they feel safe and confident. These are some of the essential tools for building such a life:
The cornerstone of my approach, to life coaching, is mindfulness. So, as a coach, I often talk about the basic mindfulness skills, as laid out in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and then begin to discuss ways you can embrace these concepts and bring them more deeply into your awareness and your life, in tangible ways. These 8 key mindfulness skills are as follows:
