Energy psychology is a modality that approaches mental health issues from a subconscious and energy-based perspective. It allows the client to understand the problem and create change without in-depth explanations, without reliving traumas. The focus is not on the details or circumstances but on the feelings and how to release them, on a very deep level, through energy work.
Dr Bruce Lipton, author of the award winning book, The Biology of Belief, says, "The subconscious mind is a million times more powerful than the conscious mind and we operate 95 to 99 percent of our lives from subconscious programs." He also says that energy psychology "activates the brain to be in a state of superlearning. If you engage superlearning, you can rewrite subconscious beliefs in a short period of time."
The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology explains it like this:
"Energy psychology (EP) is a collection of mind-body approaches for understanding and improving human functioning. In the clinical world, EP models have been beneficially applied to assessment and treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, pain, stress, psychophysiological issues, and self-sabotaging behaviors by a broad range of healthcare providers, to regulate affect and promote emotional and physical health. Treatment results have been shown to be enduring and relatively rapid. In the coaching and performance world, EP models have been beneficially applied in many areas of performance enhancement including sports, education, business, and lifestyle issues related to relationships, weight
management, and finance."

WHY ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY?
I was born with an ability to help heal physical pain in animals and people. It didn't work in every case but it worked a lot and, in some cases, dramatically and immediately. Somehow, helping others' heal their physical ailments, through the use of visualization and intention, just made sense to me. Ultimately, though, this gift fell by the wayside, for many years, because I was drawn to the field of mental (and not physical) health. I chose this field because I was an empath and highly sensitive to the emotional content of the world and the people around me. I struggled to maintain my own emotional equilibrium and I wanted to acquire some sense of mastery over my feelings and sensitivities. I had a deep desire to learn this for myself and then teach others how to do the same. However, I didn't find this sense of mastery until I began to incorporate energy healing into the process.
After becoming a counselor and getting my licensure in the US, it took me many years to realize that my gift, for working with energy, could also be used to facilitate emotional healing. Once I realized I could apply this kind of healing to the psyche, I started using it intentionally. For those clients who were open to this concept, I began teaching them how to work with their own energy to alleviate anxiety, depression, and other challenging emotional patterns. By focusing on their breathing and being mindful of sensations in the body, clients learn to shift/control the energy within, creating an opportunity for deep healing and release. This process also slows down the pace of thoughts and brings them to a deeper understanding of the self. Clients report feeling like they're under hypnosis (or in a mild trance) while doing this kind of energy work, which helps them take a step back, and observe rather than be immersed in their story. It allows them to talk things out and gain clarity without getting agitated or drawn into habitual, negative thought patterns.
